Under the alias DJ Cam, Laurent Dumail started Street Jazz Productions in March 1994 to "put out what I like...the new wave of abstract hip hop." His jams can be found atop the charts of his notable contemporaries James Lavelle, DJ Food, and the mighty DJ Krush. Citing both Miles Davis and KRS-1 among his many influences, it's no wonder DJ Cam's creative use of freeform instrumentation and vintage breakbeats has created such a buzz amongst insiders of both hip hop and jazz communities.
Over the past few years, Cam has been a major player on Shadow's impressive collection of down tempo compilations. Most recently the singles 'Lost Kingdom' and 'London 1995' appeared on Pure Abstrakt and After Hours 2. MAD BLUNTED JAZZ now broadens the playing field with a full fledged Parisian interpretation of Cams journey to the other side. This double CD set not only showcases DJ Cam's talent as a producer, but also highlights his skill as a live performer. The sum total of it all is suitable for the primetime dance floor but kicked back enough for some armchair puffing. Once again, Shadow drops fresh new science on the domes of us all.
